Cyclone Biparjoy in India Live Updates, June 14: Cyclone Biparjoy Wednesday, churning the Arabian Sea, was set to re-curve towards Gujarat’s Saurashtra, Kutch, and adjoining south Pakistan, slightly weakening in the process but still threatening to swamp the region with storm surges, strong winds and heavy rains, news agency PTI reported.

According to the news agency, India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said, “For the past six hours, it [intensity of the cyclone] has become very slow, practically stationary. This is an indication that the direction of the movement of the cyclone will change now.

We are expecting that it will move towards the northeast and it will hit Saurashtra, Kutch and adjoining Pakistan between Mandvi and Karachi near to Jakhau Port.” The IMD had also sounded a red alert as cyclone Biparjoy made its way to the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts, a day before its predicted to make landfall.

Chief Minister Mr. Bhupendra Patel reviewed the disaster management and preparedness of the district system against the possible effects of Cyclone Biparjoy through video conference from the State Emergency Operation Center in Gandhinagar with the District Collectors of coastal Gujarat and gave important guidelines, so that the situation of “Biporjoy” cyclone can be reached.

મુખ્યમંત્રીશ્રીએ ખાદ્ય પ્રદાર્થો, વીજળી, પાણી, દવાઓ જેવી આવશ્યક વસ્તુઓના પુરવઠાને જો અસર પહોંચે તો તત્કાલ પુન:સ્થાપન માટેની ટીમ્સ, પંપિંગ મશીન્સ, જનરેટર્સ સહિતની જરૂરી વ્યવસ્થાઓ તૈયાર રાખવા પણ સૂચનો કર્યા હતા, જેથી લોકોને ઝડપી રાહત પહોચાડી શકવામાં મદદરૂપ થાય.

It may be mentioned here that the state government has put these agencies on standby for disaster management in coordination with the Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard and Army to deal with the possible impact of the cyclone. Besides, 7 teams of NDRF have been deployed and 3 teams are kept on standby. 12 teams of SDRF have also been kept ready to reach the needy areas.

Cyclone Biporjoy is likely to hit the coast of Gujarat due to which the government has become alert. In view of the possible calamity of the cyclone, the state government has postponed the entry festival in six districts including Kutch. Apart from this, the Air Force, Navy, Army have been kept on pan stand by in view of the possible extent of the storm.

Nine Ministers have been assigned different district responsibilities In the wake of Cyclone Biporjoy, new ministers have been assigned different district responsibilities to guide the district administration in disaster management planning and operations. All these ministers will stay in that district for three days and guide the local system.

Ministers Rishikesh Patel and Praful Panserian have been given responsibility for Kutch, Kanu Desai for Morbi, Raghavji Patel for Rajkot, Kuvarji Bavlia for Porbandar, Mulu Bera for Jamnagar, Harsh Sanghvi for Dwarka, Jagadish Vishwakarma for Junagadh and Purshottam Solanki for Gir Somnath district.

Keeping in view the possible impact of Biporjoy Cyclone, the local system has been activated in Kutch, Dwarka, Morbi and Rajkot, the leave of officers and employees has been cancelled, plans are being made to move people to safe places in low-lying areas if necessary. It has been decided to take people to shelters with the help of the police, the entire system is on alert mode following the arrival of the storm.

As a precautionary measure in view of Cyclone Biparjoy, a Proclamation under Section 144 has been issued prohibiting the movement of persons and animals and prohibiting fishermen from going into the sea in the coastal area of Kutch district.
